The 2027 conference in Amsterdam will continue to critically interrogate one of HFRN’s longstanding lines of enquiry: that historical fictions are anything but a banal engagement with the past, but explicitly and implicitly shape and propel political claims, identities and agendas.

4th T-LitCon Folk & Lore: Stories of Yore, Stories for Posterity.

Event presentation
This conference approaches folklore as a living and mutable archive, perpetually renewed whenever retold. We welcome presentations that explore how literary and cultural works inherit folkloric materials; how they preserve, distort, challenge, or reinvent them and how adaptation negotiates the distance between ancestral memory and contemporary life. We are equally interested in the futures of folklore: what it means to retell inherited stories now, what is gained or lost in their transformation, and how the stories we choose to preserve today may themselves become the lore of generations to come.
At its heart, Folk & Lore: Stories of Yore, Stories for Posterity asks a deceptively simple question: why do we continue to tell old stories? The 4th T-LitCon welcomes contributions that examine what we receive from the past, what we make of it in the present, and what, in turn, we choose to leave behind for the future.
Submitted abstracts should be between 300 and 400 words and accompanied by 4–7 keywords. Individual presentations will be allocated 20 minutes in the conference program. Certificates of participation will be issued only to those who deliver their scheduled presentations.
Keynote speaker will be announced shortly.
