This initiative is motivated by the current and increasing interest of linguists and laypeople alike in the influence of English on other languages (e.g. Furiassi, Pulcini &amp; Rodr\u00edguez Gonz\u00e1lez 2012; Furiassi &amp; Gottlieb 2015). The GLAD effort is closely linked to the recent history of the European Society for the Study of English (ESSE), as most of the coordination in its early stages took place in the context of ESSE conferences.
