No unsolicited manuscripts for essays are accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Call for Topics for Volume 32<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"100\" height=\"75\" class=\"wp-image-608\" style=\"width: 100px;\" src=\"https:\/\/essenglish.org\/ejes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/ejes-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\"> <strong>The<\/strong> <strong><em>European Journal of English Studies<\/em><\/strong> <strong>is inviting proposals for special issues in volume 32 (2028).<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>EJES<\/em> takes an interest in topics that investigate the borders and intersections between different research fields in English studies, including, but not limited to, literary analysis, linguistics, critical and cultural theory, and gender and sexuality studies. This expansive focus allows the journal to encompass the plurality of English studies in Europe, a reflection of its affiliation with the European Society for the Study of English (ESSE). Topics of special issues feature high-level scholarship as well as a reflection on the argumentative strategies behind ongoing work and emerging directions in the study of Anglophone language and culture.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guest editing teams should consist of two or three scholars who work in different locations within Europe and who have some previous editorial experience. In some cases, <em>EJES<\/em>\u00a0publishes issues that have grown out of a conference, a conference panel, or a (preferably trans-European) funded research project. Such issues can be considered if the resulting CFP also appeals to scholars who did not participate in the original enterprise. All submissions undergo a double-blind peer-review process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Proposals for topics <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">for volume 32 (2028) should be sent to the editors before 30 September 2026 to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Isabel Carrera Su\u00e1rez (University of Oviedo): <a href=\"mailto:icarrera@uniovi.es\">icarrera@uniovi.es<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Katerina Kitsi-Mitakou (Artistotle University of Thessaloniki): <a href=\"mailto:katkit@enl.auth.gr\">katkit@enl.auth.gr<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Frederik Van Dam (Radboud University, Nijmegen): <a href=\"mailto:frederik.vandam@ru.nl\">frederik.vandam@ru.nl<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Procedure<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The proposal should include a description of the topic, a list of leading questions (for examples, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/essenglish.org\/ejes\/issues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">current CFPs on the ESSE website<\/a>), and brief biographies of the guest editors, detailing their editorial experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The general editors will select new topics for the issues before the end of October 2026. Guest Editors: Mar\u00eda Porras S\u00e1nchez (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain); Susana Nicol\u00e1s Rom\u00e1n (Universidad de Almer\u00eda, Spain); Janet Wilson (University of Northampton, UK).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Topics<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The general editors encourage proposals for special issue topics that span divides between critical and cultural theory, literary analysis, and linguistics as well as gender and sexuality studies. Ideally, these topics will also reflect on English and Anglophone Studies within Europe. Guest editing teams should be comprised of two or three persons who work in different localities within Europe and who have significant editorial experience. In some cases,\u00a0<em>EJES<\/em>\u00a0will publish volumes that result out of conferences. These proposals can be considered if the resulting CFP is opened up to scholars who did not participate in the original event. Suggestions for topics can be made to the editors at any time. A selection of new topics is made at the end of September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Procedure<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Potential guest editors submit a Call for Topics of 300 to 500 words for their topic to the general editors. This proposal should include a list of leading questions. See the current CFPs or the example here for a suggested form. Brief biographies of the guest editors, in which they demonstrate their editorial experience, should be included as well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The general editors select new topics by the end of October. The chosen CFPs are edited to cohere with EJES\u2019s aims.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The resulting CFPs will be published on the T&amp;F website and the ESSE website at the beginning of November.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Calls for Papers<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>EJES <\/em>operates a two-stage review process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contributors are invited to submit detailed proposals (up to 1,000 words) and a short biography (max. 100 words) by mid-January. The guest editors make a selection of proposals in consultation with the editorial board and invite shortlisted authors to submit a full-length version (between 6,000 and 8,000 words) by the end of May.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The contributors\u2019 full-length drafts are reviewed by the special issue editors, who may ask for revisions, and retain the right to reject an article if it does not meet the standards of the journal. Contributors are expected to submit a revised text by mid-September.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The revised articles are subject to a double-blind peer review (carried out on ScholarOne, the Taylor &amp; Francis platform) in the autumn. On the basis of the peer review, the editors will formulate a final advice (accept, minor revisions, major revisions, reject).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>EJES<\/em> employs Chicago Style (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandf.co.uk\/journals\/authors\/style\/reference\/tf_ChicagoAD.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">T&amp;F Chicago AD<\/a> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"30\" height=\"14\" class=\"wp-image-702\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/essenglish.org\/ejes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/02\/pdf-name-2.png\" alt=\"\">) and British English conventions for spelling.
